ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਹਮ ਭਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

The Lord, the True Guru, the Lord, the True Guru - if only I could meet the Lord, the True Guru; His Lotus Feet are so pleasing to me.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਮਰ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

The darkness of my ignorance was dispelled, when the Guru applied the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom to my eyes.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਦਾ) ਸੁਰਮਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ (ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ॥

The True Guru has applied the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom to my eyes, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸੇ ॥

Serving the Guru, I have obtained the supreme status; I meditate on the Lord with every breath, and every morsel of food.
ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਕੰਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Line 15
Those, upon whom the Lord God has bestowed His Grace, are committed to the service of the True Guru.
ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਹਮ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

The Lord, the True Guru, the Lord, the True Guru - if only I could meet the Lord, the True Guru; His Lotus Feet are so pleasing to me. ||1||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥

My True Guru, my True Guru is my Beloved; without the Guru, I cannot live.
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Line 17
He gives me the Name of the Lord, the Name of the Lord, my only companion in the end.
ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇਗਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
Line 17
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is my only companion in the end; the Guru, the True Guru, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ-ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇਗਾ,
ਜਿਥੈ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਛਡਾਇਆ ॥
Line 18
There, where neither child nor spouse shall accompany you, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har shall emancipate you.
ਜਿਥੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ, ਉਥੇ ਹਰਿ-ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਛੁਡਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
Line 19
Blessed, blessed is the True Guru, the Immaculate, Almighty Lord God; meeting Him, I meditate on the Name of the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥

My True Guru, my True Guru is my Beloved; without the Guru, I cannot live. ||2||
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
Line 1
Those who have not obtained the Blessed Vision, the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the True Guru, the Almighty Lord God,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਤਿਨ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਤਿਨ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
Line 2
they have fruitlessly, fruitlessly wasted their whole lives in vain.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ, ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ ਗਿਆ, ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਏ ਮਰਿ ਝੂਰੇ ॥
Line 2
They have wasted away their whole lives in vain; those faithless cynics die a regretful death.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਗਏ।
ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਰਤਨਿ ਪਦਾਰਥਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
Line 3
They have the jewel-treasure in their own homes, but still, they are hungry; those unlucky wretches are far away from the Lord.
ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਬਦ-ਨਸੀਬ ਮਰੂੰ-ਮਰੂੰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਤੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਰਹੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਨ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Line 3
O Lord, please, let me not see those who do not meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਰੱਬ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਸਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਾਹ ਕਰਨਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ,
ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Line 4
and who have not obtained the Blessed Vision, the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the True Guru, the Almighty Lord God. ||3||
ਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ, ਦਰਸਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਦੀਨ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
Line 5
I am a song-bird, I am a meek song-bird; I offer my prayer to the Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ, ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਰਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
Line 5
If only I could meet the Guru, meet the Guru, O my Beloved; I dedicate myself to the devotional worship of the True Guru.
ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਰਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਜਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Line 6
I worship the Lord, Har, Har, and the True Guru; the Lord God has granted His Grace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਲੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਮੑਾਰੇ ॥

Without the Guru, I have no other friend. The Guru, the True Guru, is my very breath of life.
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ (ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ) ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਤੀ ॥

Says Nanak, the Guru has implanted the Naam within me; the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the True Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਦੀਨ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ॥੪॥੩॥
