ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਜਜਰੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਜਰੁ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਆਏ ॥
Line 16
This body is frail; old age is overtaking it.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਢੇਪਾ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

Those who are protected by the Guru are saved, while others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹ (ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਹੋਰ ਜਮਦੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੋਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
Line 17
Others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going, and in the end, they depart regretfully. Without the Name, there is no peace.
ਹੋਰ ਜਮਦੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅੰਤ (ਮਰਨ) ਵੇਲੇ ਪਛਤਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ-ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਐਥੈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
Line 18
As one acts here, so does he obtain his rewards; the self-willed manmukh loses his honor.
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਨਾ ਤਿਥੈ ਭੈਣ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥

In the City of Death, there is pitch darkness, and huge clouds of dust; neither sister nor brother is there.
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ) ਜਮ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ, ਬਹੁਤ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਭੈਣ ਜਾਂ ਭਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਜਜਰੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਜਰੁ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਆਈ ॥੧॥

ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਢੇਪਾ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਥੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਸਚੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

Doubt and Maya have been removed from within me, and I am merged in the Naam, the True Name of the Lord.
(ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Line 1
Merged in the True Name of the Lord, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; meeting my Beloved, I have found peace.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
Line 2
I am in constant bliss, day and night; egotism has been dispelled from within me.
ਇਸ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨੀ ਪੁਰਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਹੰਉ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
Line 2
I fall at the feet of those who enshrine the Naam within their consciousness.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
Line 3

ਸਰੀਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding.
ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਨਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
Line 4
Without the True Guru, they are deluded by doubt; going to the world hereafter, what face will they display?
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਰਮ-ਸਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਕਿਆ ਦੇਨਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਜਾਏ ਅਵਗੁਣਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
Line 5
What face will they show, when they go there? They will regret and repent for their sins; their actions will bring them only pain and suffering.
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਖਾ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ। ਜੇਹੜੀ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਔਗੁਣ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹੇੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਾ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Line 5
Those who are imbued with the Naam are dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love; they merge into the Being of their Husband Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ (ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।
ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝਈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਾਏ ॥
Line 6
I can conceive of no other as great as the Lord; unto whom should I go and speak?
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਅੱਗੇ (ਕੋਈ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ) ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੩॥
Line 6

ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੜਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਹੰਉ ਤਿਨ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
Line 7
I fall at the feet of those who praise the Truest of the True.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਲੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਏ ॥
Line 7
Those humble beings are true, and immaculately pure; meeting them, all filth is washed off.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਲੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
Line 8
Meeting them, all filth is washed off; bathing in the Pool of Truth, one becomes truthful, with intuitive ease.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
Line 9
The True Guru has given me the realization of the Naam, the Immaculate Name of the Lord, the unfathomable, the imperceptible.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਕਾਲਖ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਿਆਣਪ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Line 9
Those who perform devotional worship to the Lord night and day, are imbued with His Love; O Nanak, they are absorbed in the True Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ!
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੜਾ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹੰਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥
Line 10
I fall at the feet of those who meditate on the Truest of the True. ||4||4||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੪॥
